Tracking “exit clicks”

Is there a method to track exit-clicks which is friendly to the search-engine ranking of the target site? I started using the awstats redirect perl script, but someone downstream pointed out that search-engines won’t decode the link, and the downstream site’s search-engine rank will suffer as a result.
