• Hello.
I need to trigger a tag based on click action for Bandcamp embedded player but I cannot find the right path to make it. Further I’d like to track events for this media player but I dont see any gtm events available when I click the player controls.
    Could you provide any hints?

    A sample page is https://www.spyrospan.com/discography/quiver-2/

And here is a SS of what I refer to SS

    Thank you

    Hi,

I checked your sample page and I was trying to find some documentation for this Bandcamp embedded player. It is important to know that nor GTM or my plugin will not give you any GTM events as long as there is no support for this specific player.

I was not able to find any public documentation for this player about how events could be “seen” with some JavaScript codes. Do you have any such documentation?

I was also inspecting a little but the code of the player and as far as I can see there is not support in the player for such event tracking.

I think it is currently not possible to track player controls and player status but maybe there is a documentation for that somewhere at Bandcamp.

Thank you for the prompt reply DT.
Good to hear that from you cause I started thinking that I’m dumb.
Yes as you said I was desperately searching for any references regarding bandcamp but I could not find anything as well.
Actually passing the events to GA is not my biggest concern at least for now. What is critical for me is just to trigger a custom html tag that in turns sends custom event data to FB pixel when someone simply clicks the #art element or #artlink link or clicks the #next button. But for some reason it doesn’t trigger. I have tried both justlink and all elements triggers with a variety of configuration options.
Could this due to fact that the player is contained in iframe?
How could I overcome this snag?

    Best Regards

    Hi,

Unfortunately you will not be able to track those elements since they are inside a so called iframe. This is kind of “browser inside the browser” that lives a separate life although you see it as a part of the whole.

Browsers to not allow access to the content of an iframe an because of this GTM will not be able to see and track when people click on those links.

Then only solution would be if Bandcamp would have a so called “player API” that sends such events to the main browser window where GTM is available.
