Tracking outbound clicks

This has been asked before re google analytics years ago here:
https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/how-to-track-outbound-links-google-analytics?replies=2And 4 years ago here:
https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/plugin-page-links-to-how-to-track-outbound-links-google-analytics?replies=3but never answered so presumably it can’t be done “out of the box”.
So let me try ask it with a different twist, via two options, to see if either might be a solution to tracking the redirected, outbound links.
1) Looking at the code, it seems there is some javascript injected during the redirection process, but not being an expert on what goes during that process and the interaction with the browser, I was wondering if there was anyway to include/inject the Google Analytics javascript (see here: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1008080?hl=en#GA) with that other javascript and fool Google into thinking the original WP page/post was visited. After all, if we can track the page/post opening, rather than the outbound click, that would be of equal value, as right now nothing is tracked.
2) Will plugins like SlimStat (https://en-ca.www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-slimstat/) capture the page open event — since it’s not dependent on generic code for a web browser but integrated into WordPress events (like a request for a page to be served up) — before the redirection so if google can’t be used then perhaps a WordPress analytics plugin can be used.
Thx.
