Are you using the Mapmytracks protocol? Oruxmaps has some known bugs there, they mostly show if you have bad network connectivity. For me, tracking sometimes never restarted after lost network. I only knew hours later when somebody told me. I identified a few reproducible bugs, and the developer said this should be fixed in an upcoming version. I hope so. And I hope this solves all problems.
You may want to hide your phone in some metal simulating lost network for half an hour or so and see what happens. Just to be sure before you start your very important trip.
