Recently i started running a small PI on my site/s, Simple History (and i can thoroughly recommended it).

But what today i noticed, SH showed many attempted ‘admin’ logins by same IP in past few hours; yet these do NOT all show up in the the WF Traffic Log, instead it (the IP Address) seems to only show up once, AND does NOT mention that it was an attempt/s to login as ‘admin’.\

(and of course AGAIN, i can NOT upload screenshots!!!! FFS.)

So what is the likely story here, given you cannot see the actual logs of both????

    Certainly worries me.

Hi @decard, thanks for getting in touch about this.

We have spent some time running tests and have found that Live Traffic has matched Simple History in manual login attempts of invalid usernames/passwords and when attempting to mimic a bot using cURL. Manually blocking the IP and running cURL to mimic a bot showed up on Live Traffic but not Simple History for us. That’s not the final word on the matter, of course the server environment or other factors such as installed plugins etc. could be the cause of a discrepancy in your case.

Expanding the Live Traffic results by clicking the eye icon to see the details will show the attempted login as “admin” whereas the unexpanded line will not.

It would be of interest to us to see your screenshots, access logs, and/or other supporting information about the differences you’ve seen. The ability to attach images to the forum, and which sources are accepted aren’t controlled by us but you can send those privately to wftest @ wordfence . com so we can look. It may also help to send an exported txt from your Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page along with that too. Remember to put your forum username in the subject line and tell us here once you’ve sent them over.

    Many thanks,
    Peter.
