1. Copy all files from the old to the new host.
2. Export the database using phpmyadmin.
3. On the new host, import the database using phpmyadmin.
4. As the DB info may have changed, edit wp-config.php to reflect the new settings.

Really, that’s all that’s necessary!

Oh, in that case all you need do is install a theme. Your content will not be affected. You will probably have to reassign your menus to the theme’s designated menus and may have to move around some widgets.

I would like to abandon the old theme, because there is a lot of superfluous code.
May be it can help me 301 redirect? Where I have to reassign menus, wp or host? And after installing the theme and reassigning can I delete the old theme?

You don’t have to do any 301s. All you’re doing is changing the “skin” on your content. Once you have things the way you like, just delete the old theme from appearances-> themes.

Hey @flikki,

You don’t need to change WordPress core to change your site look. If you worry about old theme can put code outside the theme files (change core files) you can make scan with Integrity Checker plugin.

All you need to do is install the new theme. All content will not be affected, it will stay the same. The only changes you’ll get is the look of your current site.

If you are not comfortable updating your current site, then you might consider @sterndata recommendation.
