    Hi everybody,
I am really new on the topic, trying to create my new site in www.ads-software.com.
I bought a package (host and domain) at Hostgator.
Now, as I understood, I need to transfer my domain from Hostgator to www.ads-software.com, in order to use the www.ads-software.com templates and build my site.
For this reason, I contated Hostgator support. They asked me to contact www.ads-software.com to get the nameservers.

Can you please help me to:
    1) verify if these are the correct steps
    2) show me how to find the www.ads-software.com nameservers
    3) indicate me if there is anything else I need to consider, when transfering the domain from Hostgator to www.ads-software.com (the theme I would like to use is business-times).

    Many thanks fro your help!

  • Maybe later this morning (after the staff at HostGator has had their coffee) you might ask them for some help again.

You won’t need anything from us as HostGator will be your web host and will probably have a tutorial, some good documentation, and a single button installer to make all this happen!

www.ads-software.com does not offer hosting, but :

    1. Magnificient WordPress sofware package
    2. Grand choice of themes in theme directory. All are free.
    3. Immense choice of plugins.

All of them you can use with ANY hosting. Including hostgator.

What you describe is not a domain “transfer” but instead just a domain pointing. I true domain transfer does not require Name servers instead requires a domain transfer process in which is handled between domain registrars. In this case a domain transfer code is issued and only with that code is released from domain registrar A so domain registrar B can take over for you. In some cases a domain transfer fee is involved and if is not one of the TLDs you will need to check if your new domain registrar have the correct license to take over a unique TLD.

The second option is keep your domain registration with your current domain registrar and just call your new hosting provider and ask for the Name servers to point your domain to. They should have assigned this to you as soon as your hosting service was set up or you may find them in your hosting account settings/profile. they should be something like ns1.hostingprovider.com and ns2.hostingprovider.com. Then go back to your current/original domain registrar and remove the current domain name servers, replace them with your new hosting provider name servers. This will move your “zone file” over to your new hosting provider where you can control your A record/s cName, MX records etc.
The third and easiest option is to just go to your current domain registrar and locate your zone file, go to the A record and in there you will see an IP address, get the new server IP address and replace this from there. Your domain wont move registrars nor your zone file and the change is much quicker.
