• Hi!

I am hosting 3 wordpress blogs on Dreamhost, and have 1 site on Wix that I would like to move to WordPress/Dreamhost. I own the domain on this Wix site, and have added it to my list of hosted sites on Dreamhost.

I would like to know how to move my domain to wordpress (or dreamhost?) and create a wordpress site with it. I have done nothing with this domain/site since registering with Wix, so I really need step-by=step directions.

    I really appreciate the help!

    Thanks!

I believe Wix registers their domains through https://www.networksolutions.com so you should contact Network Solutions and tell them you need access to your domain to change the DNS over to Dreamhost.

Well, I registered the domain through Google Apps, not Wix. So, I’m not sure where to begin. Do I start at WordPress creating a new blog, or do I go to Wix or Google Apps to change the domain settings?

Yes, first you should create your new blog on Dreamhost.

Then, when it’s ready to go live you’ll point the DNS by log into your Google account.

Dreamhost will give you the Nameservers so you’ll know what to change it to.

Once the entire process is complete and your new site is live, you can cancel your Wix account.

Thanks for that direction! Everything seemed to be working fine, but has now gone wrong.

I was able to change the DNS settings to Dreamhost, as well as get WordPress installed and was able to work in the WP dashboard. But then all of a sudden the domain reverted back to Wix, where the domain has been deleted. So now when you enter the domain (WebDivaMarketing.com), a Wix error page shows up.

I checked the DNS settings to make sure they were still set to Dreamhost, and they are. What could have gone wrong? What steps should I take now?

I really appreciate the help! ??

DNS can take up to 24 hours to fully propagate through the internet. In the meantime, you may experience flip-flop of DNS settings. Not to worry, by tomorrow your domain will consistently point to Dreamhost.
