• Apologies if this has already been addressed in the forums, but I couldn’t find any mention — easily, anyway — of my specific problem. I should start with that I am a WordPress beginner, so if the answer to this question is a simple “no”, please do feel free to be forthright about that. I have at least a small amount of technical comprehension regarding the installation process, but not much.

I’d like to transfer my WordPress blog to a new host (same domain). I’ve already cancelled with my old host and have procured a new one. I have downloaded all of the contents from my old host via its CPanel and they are saved in a secure place. My old host handled the WordPress installation for me, so I do not have my database information (at least that I know of).

Can I transfer, or must I start from scratch?

Thankfully, the blog hadn’t yet been particularly well-established and I used an add-on to upload posts in bulk via Excel, so if I have to start over, I will. Ideally, however, I’d like to avoid that.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

I did, esmi. Thank you. However, I don’t quite understand what set of instructions, particularly, I must follow — or if I even can.

I don’t understand how to make modifications to wp-config.php, for example, when my site is down (as I have already cancelled my old hosting). I am new to WordPress and also to maintaining a website, so perhaps that’s my issue.

I do not have my database information (at least that I know of).

For a copy of your database where all your user data, pages, posts and comments were stored, you would have done a database export or backup completely separate from downloading anything such as the wp-content folder where your uploads were stored. So if you do not have a copy of your database, you will have to begin afresh. Either way, however, do the new installation at your new host before transferring anything and the installer will deal with wp-config and the info it needs for the new database even if you do have database content to import later on (such as possibly done from Tools > Export at your previous Dashboard).
