Transfer to new host

  • I’ve read the info on transfer and it says about copying files but from where and how? Can someone please confirm that to transfer site to new host I sign in to site, go to tools, export file, tick all the boxes, download file and then upload to new server? Name/URL remain unchanged.

    You can ask the new host to transfer your website from the old host. Most web hosts do it for free and all they need is your account login details at the old host.

    If you want to do it yourself, there are few ways to do it but I recommend contacting your new host first!

    * You will need to copy your website “files” to your computer using FTP.

    * You will need to copy your website “databases” to your computer using PHPMyAdmin.

    PHPMyAdmin can be found in your old host control panel such as cPanel, DirectAdmin…etc

    If your new host does not offer a free transfer, the plugin WP Clone works great for me. Other migration plugins are out there too.

    Thank you for the replies. New host does not transfer sites and the wordpress clone is not tested on my theme. Looks like I will have to have a go!

    Well, its not a hard task to do.

    Which control panel your old host is using? cPanel?
