Transfer to new server

  • Hey,

    I am having difficulty with my installation.

    I had the installation working perfectly on one server.

    I then saved the mysql database by exporting it.
    I transfered the old directory to my computer (with old urls in place)
    I then changed the urls to new destination and backed up the directory to my computer.
    Then I imported database to new phpmyadmin
    changed database detail in wp-config
    Uploaded file directory to new directory
    Tested the site and it worked perfectly. !!!!

    Then removed old directory from old server
    Removed old database
    Now its not working – content is displayed but no css in palce – just text.
    Unable to view wp-admin

    I have added the following lines to my wp-config file
    define(‘WP_SITEURL’, ‘https://www.gecko-it.net/new/’);
    define(‘WP_HOME’, ‘https://www.gecko-it.net/new/’);

    and now home page is still not showing but wp-admin is showing all ok.

    I have tried to log in but it seems to refresh to the log in sreen again. i do not get the message of incorrect password, it just clears the fields and asks for log in details again,

    I have dropped the database and re imported and I have transfered the directory again to the ftp.

    Anyone have any ideas on what i could try next.

    Ok so scrap the message above – I have now reinstated everything on old server to get it working there again and changed the urls again.

    Now I have moved it again to the correct (new location) and the home page works fine, however I get error establishing database connection on all other pages including wp-admin.

    Very odd.

    we have a similar issue

    We moved the wordpress blog from networks-telecomblog.com to blog.advantech.com and after redirecting the urls, the browser window closed before we could export the WXR. When we tried to log back into the old blogs address it forwarded us to the new address and asked us to install wordpress there. So to make a long story less lengthy, how do we get back into the old blog to export all of our old posts, pages, comments, categories, and tags. Any help you can provide would greatly be appreciated.

    Do mean you getting a 404 error as if your Home page opens fine
    try and rename .htaccess file which is hidden and if you log in reset your permalinks.
