• A blog for a client of mine has been hosted by a third party blog, who also registered the domain name my client’s blog lies under. Recently the other blog agreed to transfer full ownership of the blog itself and the domain to my client, but they are not sure what the process is, and without seeing what they see, I’m not sure what to tell them.

    So my questions are:

1.) how would the third party initiate a transfer of the domain? (assuming the third party registered it through WordPress)
2.) how would the third party transfer full control of the blog to my client?
3.) my client is purchasing new hosting; will I still upload the db/files/etc. to the new host and then change the nameserver on the domain?

  • I’m sorry but what does this have to do with WordPress?

Only the current registrant can change the ownership of a domain. The third party blog who registered the domain will submit the transfer request with their registrar to whoever your customer wants as their registrar. Once completed your customer will be given access to the domain and all you have to do at that point is to change the A-record to point to the new hosting server’s public IP. (mx record, too if they want email on that domain.)
