Transferring Dreamweaver site to WordPress questions

  • I have a website I’ve administered for several years now with Dreamweaver for all content except the blog page, which is published separately via WordPress. I would like to move all the site’s content over to WordPress, but I would like to be able to build the site fresh in WordPress before publishing the changes. I will need to retain all the page names since this site has been up for several years. Any help on how to approach this is greatly appreciated.

    The Best way to go about this is by building the website afresh from WordPress there are lots of themes you can purchase online that may closely look like your previous website design then you can start building.

    I will need to retain all the page names since this site has been up for several years.

    When building on WordPress you’ll be able to customize your website links and menu etc.

    I have used WP for other sites, so I’m familiar with that. I guess my question if more logistics. Is this how I should handle it?

    Build draft pages in WordPress that I’ll be replacing, using the exact same URLs for those respective pages. When the drafts are ready to publish, do I need to remove the existing content, then publish the new site? Or when I publish, will it give me the prompt to replace those duplicated pages?

    Rather than struggle to have the exact same page names, use a plugin like https://www.ads-software.com/redirection to create 301 redirects. After a week or so, search engines will recognize your new content.
