    Hello,

is there a way to use WPML to ONLY translate Google Product Feeds of a WooCommerce Website?

The site itself is already translated by GTranslate, which I like a lot because it is so easy. But they do not translate the product feeds, unfortunately.

Maybe WPML could do this alone and nothing else?

    Thank you, Sandra

    Hello @spoodes,

Do you mean the “Woocommerce google product field” plugin? If so, the plugin is listed as compatible on our website: https://wpml.org/plugin/woocommerce-google-product-feed/

Then if you don’t need to translate pages/posts, you can just duplicate it to the second language, or set it as “Display as translated” on WPML > Settings.

Please let us know if it works for you.

    Regards,
    Diego

Thanks, Diego for your reply. But no, I do not mean a special plugin.

I am looking for a way to ONLY create a google product feed in different languages.

Because the website itself is already translated by GTranslate and I am happy with that. They just do not offer to translate the merchant feed for Google.

So, I only would need an automatically translated product feed (each day) – and nothing more.

If this could be possible,,, (?) I do not really know. ??

    Thank you,
    Sandra

    Hello Sandra,

How is the Google Merchant feed is configured in our website? AFAIK there is no native support for that, so you need a thirdy-party plugin to implement this feature (e.g. “WooCommerce Google Product Feed”).

Anyway, I don’t think it would work the way you expect. WPML provides automatic translation functionality for pages and posts, but not on a routine basis (which updates every day). In this case I believe I would need a custom code.

Also, ideally, the entire site would be translated using WPML (and not mixed with GTranslate ) to avoid conflicts.

    Diego

    Dear Diego, thanks.

Yes, I know I would need two plugins then.

One for the feed (like “Woocommerce google product feed”) and then WPML.

I know I can choose parts which WPML shall translate automatically and which not.

But I guess right now it is not possible to only translate the feed, right?

    Thanks, Sandra

    Hi Sandra,

It’s not possible to enable the multilingual function to only the feed.

After the WPML Setup, it will create a new directory on your website for each language (e.g. if you have english as the main language and spanishas second language, it will be website.com for english and website.com/es for spanish).

If you don’t translate your content to the spanish language, it will be missing on the spanish version of the website. To workaround this you can (both options are very similar):
    – Duplicate the content to SPanish (so it will create a copy of the posts in the spanish version, but with the english content)
    – Set the posts to use the “display as translated” option (so, if a post is not translated yet, it will be displayed in the original language)

So, in theory, in can duplicate all the content to the second language, and only translate the feed. But you will have 2 versions of the website (english and spanish).

    Regards,
    Diego

Thank you very much, Diego. I understand! And I will think about it.
