I’m having issues with SSL and Translatepress. I have been reading a lot about these issues, but I’m not able to solve them. When I started none of the translated pages where on HTTPS, but after replacing insecure content with HTTPS my translated pages are showing on HTTPS. But the translated Home page is still not showing on HTTPS (it’s redirected). What I have tried so far:

    • I have created a staging website at nieuw.cellosonate.nl and disabled all plugins except TranslatePress. I switched to the 2021 theme.
    • When I enable HTTPS redirect I get a “redirect too many times” for the translated home page.
    • I have cleared all cache and cookies (browser and server)
    • I checked the error logs: no errors
    • I have checked the site-url and home-url in settings
    • I have deleted .htaccess and recreated a new one with is standard WordPress
    • Disabled translatepress and checked my translated homepage URL to see if I have any content with the same URL
    • None of the above solves the issue with my translated home page. It keeps redirecting to http. Can you please let me know what else I can try to get this working correctly?

      Thanks in advance!

    Hello,

Do you have an HTTPS/SSL plugin? If so, deactivate it, visit WordPress -> Settings -> General, make sure the home url and site url have HTTPS in them –> save –> then reactivate the HTTPS/SSL plugin.

Since the problem happens only on the homepage, check if you already have a resource, page or media, with that same slug as the language (such as “en”, “fr”, “de”…).
To test this, check with TranslatePress deactivated if the homepage plus the language slug already points to something. So for example access https://example.com/en/. To solve it, rename the slug of that existing media or page to something else.

Also, please re-save permalinks and see if that helps.

    Best wishes,

    Hi,

I don’t use a HTTPS/SSL plugin. I tried to activate one, but then I get the message about too many redirects for the translated homepage.

I checked already if my translated homepage was pointing to an item of my website but that’s not the case.

Resaving permalinks doesn’t solve the issue either.

I removed all content from home, but as you can see at https://nieuw.cellosonate.nl/uk/ the page still redirects to https://nieuw.cellosonate.nl/uk/.

I’m out of options, do you have anything else that I can try?

    Thanks in advance,

For testing purposes, I just moved the site to a different hosting company and on that server the translated homepage is working fine. I didn’t make any changes to the site (they are exact duplicates) so in my opinion the reason that it is not working is server related? Is this possible?

I reinstalled WordPress, installed translatepress and activated twentytwentyone theme. With all the default settings all is working fine until I switch over to static homepage in WordPress settings. From that moment on my translated homepage is redirected to http. Forcing to https results in too many redirects.

Can you please let me know what setting can cause this behaviour? I’m using a clean htaccess file and tried already resaving permalinks. I contacted my hosting company because I think it’s somewhere related to a setting on the server, but they cannot help me. As I mentioned in my earlier reply, on another server all is working fine. Switching hosting is not an option right now.

    Hello,

Apologies for such a delay in replying!

I will be closing this ticket but please open a new one in case the issue persists.

    Best regards,

I have the same problem. @marjolein64 did you find a solution?

@jvdhelder no I didn’t. I ended up switching to Polylang. I think it is related to some server setting. The website I was working on was hosted by Mijn Domein. I tested also on a different host, and all was working fine there. I also found someone else with exactly the same problem with a website at Mijn Domein. So, if your website is hosted there, you can try to contact support (didn’t help for me), use Polylang or WPML or move to a different hosting company.

@marjolein64 too bad. Yes the website is also hosted by Mijn Domein. It’s probably a server side issue.

@dragosvrejiu can you take a look what is going wrong here?
