    We use WPML for translation.

I am translating a post of a custom post type using the WP Editor (beforehand i set the WP Editor as the translation editing tool to translate this specific post only).

Posts of that post type have a permalink structure “domain/POST_TYPE_SLUG/TAXONOMY_VALUE_SLUG/POST_TITLE”.

Translating using the WP Editor used to work:
when we had a post having the permalink “domain/POST_TYPE_SLUG/german_category_value_slug/POST_TITLE”, translating it created a post having the permalink “domain/POST_TYPE_SLUG/slug_of_english_translation_of_german_category_value/translated_POST_TITLE”.

But as of today (the last time we translated some posts is some weeks ago), the translated post has the permalink “domain/POST_TYPE_SLUG/german_category_value_slug-EN/POST_TITLE” ie. the slug of the german taxonomy value is used and has the suffix _EN added although a real english translation having a separate slug is present.

In another case the permalink created wrongly looks like “domain/POST_TYPE_SLUG/POST_TYPE_SLUG/german_category_value_slug/POST_TITLE”, ie. duplicate post type slug and no -EN suffix.

I also asked WPML support but any insight is appreciated!

This appears to have been an issue of (WP Rocket) Cache: clearing this WP cache and assigning a different taxonomy value and then reassigning the intended taxonomy value has solved the issue!
