translating custom strings

I don’t any custom string at all, Hannah.

When in your loco translate settings can you click on WooCommerce Email Designer in your list of plugins? What language are you translatig to?

Sure, Hannah, I see some of the strings, but not all of them. In fact, only body text strings appear (and subtitles for some templates, but only for 3 templates that are actually not relevant, like the new order notification email). I don’t see the subject, heading and additional content strings at all, and the subtitle strings for customer emails. If I can’t translate those ones, I just can’t use the plugin.

you can adjust the subtitle, heading and additional content text from within the email customizer in the Email Type and Text tab.

Hi Hannah, please re-read my posts. I had already customized the emails. The problem is that when I want to translate them, the mentioned strings can’t be found.

It sounds like you are wanting to translate your own custom strings, like in the context of a multilingual site where you have your custom edits in English and you want to provide custom edits for another language. Is this correct?

Whatever multilingual plugin you are using would handle this. For example, with Polylang or WPML you would find your strings in the string translation section of those plugins.

If you are not using a multilingual site then I don’t understand your question, you would write the custom strings in the editor in whatever language you want.

Thanks for your answer! Yes, that’s exactly what I’m looking for. I customized woocommerce emails with your plugin, and now, I want to translate them. The problem is that the strings don’t show when I want to translate them. I currently have Loco Translate installed. I only see the original strings of the woocommerce emails, not the custom ones. I also tryed Polylang and it was the same, I couldn’t find the custom strings at all (I had to deactivate Polylang because of a conflict with another of my plugins). Do you have a solution for that?

I’m confused by what you are asking. If you are building a multilingual site what plugin are you using to do that? Loco translate does not make your site multilingual and if you have a site that is only one language you would set whatever the translation is as the actual input in the email plugin.

I use TranslatePress to translate my website, but that plugin is designed for translations in the front-end only. Their team recommends us to use Loco Translate to deal with strings not visible in the front-end. So I tried Loco Translate, but also Polylang – and I can’t find my custom woocommerce email strings with any of them. My question is: how to find them so that I can translate them? Is there any other plugin that I should try, for example?

I read the topic again and I understand now what caused the confusion. So, yes, I have a bilingual website. It’s just the woocommerce emails that I customized with your plugin that still need to be translated. When in Loco Translate, I click on plugins, than Kadence Woocommerce Email Designer, and I only see the original woocommerce strings, not my custom ones. So I can’t translate my customized woocommerce emails. Sorry if it was confusing!

Locotranslate will only translate static strings, custom content you add has to be translated by your multilingual plugin. You can’t use TranslatePress and Polylang they are totally different systems. You need to reach out to TranslatePress to get this resolved, if they truly can’t handle content added in the customizer or plugin settings (this seems really unlikely) then they are simply not going to be compatible with our plugin or with any plugin that allows you to add custom content to things through settings in the plugin. I’m not familiar with TranslatePress and so I can’t offer any advice but again it seems very unlikely that they don’t have a solution for this kind of thing.

Hi Ben,

With TranslatePress, translations can be made a bit similarly to the Elementor theme customizer, as if you worked directly in the browser, not through the WP dashboard. I could translate everything besides emails, that’s a great plugin for everything else.

Anyway, I will try to solve this with some coding (thing that I wanted to avoid doing).
