Hi, I’m trying to translate the plugin working on .pot file provided, with poedit.
I saved both genereted file in wp-content/languages/plugins/ as block-visibility-it_IT.mo and block-visibility-it_IT.po but they seem to be ignored. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi @saxcbr, first off, thank you for doing a translation of the plugin! I apologize that it seems to be ignored though.

Much of the plugin is written in JavaScript and it is setup to be translatable based on the JavaScript i18n support that came out in WordPress 5.0. More info here.

Admittedly, I am a bit new to internationalization in WordPress with Javascript based plugins. Everything was much more straight forward with PHP ??

With JavaScript, the translation files I believe need to be in json format. That said, you can translate the plugin through https://translate.www.ads-software.com/. And as I am writing this, I see that you already have! Thank you so much.

I will be doing a little research on how long translate.www.ads-software.com takes to convert your suggested translations into a language pack for the plugin, but I really appreciate you taking the time to do that. If I can answer any additional questions, please let me know!

    Best,
    Nick

I just ended now to update translations ??
Looking for how to translate a gutenberg block, I found this guide that explains step by step how to do it.
    https://awhitepixel.com/blog/wordpress-gutenberg-create-custom-block-part-8-translation/
Can it be useful to you?
I can provide you all .po/mo file if you need

    I also found that:
“At the moment, the Translation Editors (TEs) are not automatically notified when changes are made. The submitter may need to contact a TE and request a review through Polyglots P2, local community Slack workspace, or another method of the locale team’s choice So try to find out the preferred contact method by visiting the documentation provided by your locale team first.”

Thanks for this additional info. I will reach out on Slack today and see if one of the Translation Editors can take a look.

If you are able, can you send me the .po/.mo files to (info at blockvisibility.com). I want to experiment with creating the .json translation files myself and having a real translation example would be awesome.

Thank you again for all your work on this!!!

    Any progress?

Hi @gyurmey, thanks for the follow up. I just pinged the Translation team on Slack again to see what is up. The translation provided by @saxcbr is still listed as “Waiting” for review and I am not sure why. When I initially reached out to them, they said it would just take a bit of time. But 2 months seems like plenty ??

I will follow up if I hear more.

    Nick

Hi @ndiego, thanks for your reply.

I translated the .po file via WP-CLI, but I cannot init the files in wp-content/languages/plugins/ALL-FILES.JSON

    It is possible?

    Hi @gyurmey,

Thank you very much for doing a translation! I believe you need to add the translation files to wp-content/plugins/block-visibility/languages and the file needs to be in the new json format if it isn’t already.

Alternatively, you can submit your translation on www.ads-software.com and it will automatically be available once approved. After talking with a member of the translation team about saxcbr’s Italian translation, there is occasionally an additional step needed to get a submitted translation reviewed by a Translation Editor (TE).

Let me know if I can answer any additional questions.

    Best,
    Nick

    Hi @ndiego,
    thanks for the clarification.

The files are in the new format (JSON). Btw, regarding the location of language files.

    Regards!
