Do custom translation files (po, mo) get overwritten when updating the plugin? I don’t know why, but in my real test purchase via PayPal I got some parts of message untranslated. Now I’ve uploaded (po, mo) files and I think everything works again. What will happen after new update of the plugin?

If you are making direct edits to the files without using a plugin, then they will be overwritten when updating.

I recommend using loco translate to edit the plugin language files:

It’s a great plugin that will maintain your edits even after updates.

That’s strange and not acceptable solution… I already have a lot of plugins and I don’t want to make website even more slow. Why other plugins don’t overwrite translation files?

Maybe I’m misunderstanding. How exactly are you editing the language files? Can you link to some documentation so I can fully understand how you’re approaching this?

It’s totally possible that your method wont get overwritten when updating, I just need more details to fully understand. I always use the plugin since it’s simple and reliable. It definitely doesn’t slow any of my sites down.
