    Added language pack support.

Hi, what does this mean exactly ?

I found no .pot file in the plugin and I had to edit core files. The translation doesn’t work correctly though. I use french language and every time I click to change status (mute/unmute), the new status is in english and I have to refresh the page in order to have it in french.

The plugin is very useful, but I am sceptic with this behavior. Is it serious, doctor? ??

    Hi Georgio!

what does this mean exactly ?

Language packs are kinda new to WordPress plugins. For some background, take a look at this WP Tavern article.

I found no .pot file in the plugin and I had to edit core files.

Now that language packs are available, there’s no need to provide a .pot file. www.ads-software.com handles those for us ??

    Is it serious, doctor? ??

    Hehe ??

You’re probably now thinking how do I translate? Go to https://translate.www.ads-software.com/ and then choose a locale. Then click on the Plugins tab and search for “buddypress-mute”. You should then see a Translate Project button.

Thanks for using the plugin, if you have trouble translating the plugin just shout back here!

    Thanks for your quick response.
I visited the translation board and got the language file. The problem though persists:

every time I click to change status (mute/unmute), the new status is in english and I have to refresh the page in order to have it in french.

Any idea? Do you think it could be a conflict with another plugin?

That shouldn’t be happening. I think you’ve spotted a bug here. My guess is the untranslated string is in the JavaScript file. I’ll make sure this is fixed in the next version.

if you have trouble translating the plugin just shout back here!

Please, can you define the context in which these strings are shown? (I thought I had understood the context, but then I saw the strings in the core file I am no longer sure)

We cannot always reproduce the context in order to understand how to translate.

    Thanks

PS Take also in account that your plugin may be translated by persons unable to understand easier strings. Look at what I found:

I’ll need to add context to those strings when internationalising. That will also be fixed in the next version ??

    Thank you very much!
I suggest also to give more information when hovering on the button. Here is the problem:
The words “Mute” and “Unmute” don’t exist in french for this kind of situation. I will use the word “Masquer” (hide) and “Retablir” (restore, bring back to previous situation). But it will not be obvious what is hidden exactly. Users may think they are getting rid of an annoying user completely (including private messages).

Maybe these words (Mute and Unmute) are difficult to translate in other languages as well. So we must be able to give users more information when hovering.

Actually it is difficult to locate the hovering string because it has the same text as the button, but if you change the text, it will be more obvious and we will be able to translate it. For example: you can replace “Mute” with “Hide user’s activity” and “Unmute” with “Show user’s activity”

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll make sure I update the hover text. I can actually use a variable for the user’s username so I’m thinking something like:

    Mute John’s activity

    Unmute John’s activity

You’ll be able to translate these strings of course.

    Meanwhile I translated some strings

That’s awesome, thank you for adding those translations, very much appreciated!

Not sure for the other strings…

Normally when you click on the button you should see a feedback message which confirms that the action was done correctly or that there was an error. As the button doesn’t work well (needs page reloading to show the translation) I don’t have that message to verify the context. So I am looking in the core file and I don’t understand everything. Look at the screenshot:

Hopefully you will fix this and the problem will be resolved.

    Have a nice day !

The problem right now is the hard-coded strings in the JavaScript file. I’ll make sure the translated strings are available to the script in the next version. wp_localize_script() will come in handy for doing that.
