Translation problem

Hello Frank, The plugin has its own language translation files. You can check them out in the path:

‘WP_PLUGIN_DIR/subscribe-to-comments-reloaded/langs’

You will see some PO and Mo files, In order to edit any file you can go and open it with any text editor or you can use a tool such Poedit (https://www.poedit.net/)

In order to change the language of the plugin you need to make sure that your WP is working with the same Language you want. You can change this in your WP wp-config.php file under this line:

 * WordPress Localized Language, defaults to English.
 *
 * Change this to localize WordPress. A corresponding MO file for the chosen
 * language must be installed to wp-content/languages. For example, install
 * de_DE.mo to wp-content/languages and set WPLANG to 'de_DE' to enable German
 * language support.
 */
define('WPLANG', '');

I am familiar with the language files. I use a WordPress localization plugin (CodeStyling Localization) for most translations. Whenever this does not work I use poedit.

Both didn’t work in my first attempt on the language files for Subscribe to Comments Reloaded. This might be a WordPress problem, I am not sure and I will check that later. Some things were really messed up when I first tried to translate with CodeStyling Localization and poedit.

After a fresh install of your plugin everything was fine. I found the tabs in your plugin’s backend only then and translation there worked well. It is even nicer to have the strings directly in the admin part of a plugin than fiddling around with other tools.

Pointing this out it is a pity that not all strings used in the frontend are available in the backend. This means that I have to try CodeStyling Localization or poedit again.

I will work on this later and keep you informed.

Thank you Frank, Yes this sounds very nice, this improvement can be added later, but there are so much code to debug. But since this plugin uses an admin page the must be another way to edit the files there for those users that don’t code.

So for now your problem is solved ?

No, it is not solved yet. As I wrote I will have to try CodeStyling Localization or poedit again to make changes in the language files.
