Transparent .gif Overlay on Portfolio Thumbnails

Hi!

I’m working with a portfolio theme over here, and as you can see I’m trying to lay a transparent .gif over portfolio items. However, the current design is forcing a gap between the item thumbnails and their titles. I know that there’s better way of doing this, but I haven’t been able to find any adequate documentation.

I’d really appreciate some help!
