transparent images over featured slideshow

Is there a slideshow(plugin/tutorial) that would let me show 3 slides with transparent boxes over the images that act as links. The links, when hovered over, would have a popup description show and link to that specific page? Here’s an image to illustrate what I’m trying to say. I believe I can create the popout with CSS/ JQuery but I’m not sure how to use the transparent boxes and have the image change when moused over. If the cursor is not over a transparent box, the slideshow runs on its own – thanks
