This question is different to a similar question that’s been asked before.

I would like to upload a file, give it a title and assign it a category; and then have the file treated as a post when it comes to link lists and menus.

E.g. Recent Posts would list the title of the file and the date it was uploaded, the same as any other post, and clicking on the link would open or download the file (instead of opening a regular WP post page with a link to the file or embedded file).

Can Download Monitor (or another plugin anyone might suggest) be made to do this?

  • Hello @controlb,

Most of your requirements can be accomplished using our free plugin “Download Monitor” and a paid extension “Page Add-on“.

With these 2 plugins, you can create Downloads (similar to Page/Post) and add a file to it. When someone accesses the download link, they will be able to download the file attached to it.
With the “Page Add-on” extension you would be able to show a list of all available downloads in a filterable way along with individual download details page.

Hi Harish, thanks for the response.

Can it be set so that, when someone clicks the name on the list, it automatically downloads the file instead of taking the user to another page with a download link on it? That’s what we’re after.

    Hello,

That should work if you have simple downloads. You can list the downloads by using the [downloads] tag.
