trentadams.ca is my main site that I use, but I actually run several WordPress sites now. After playing around with several different blog software packages over the past 5 years, I have finally decided to settle down and use the best with WordPress.
I have moved the last of my sites over to WordPress over the past year and originally integrated my site with phpBB, 4images and a wiki software at one point for a family tree. The goal was to create a community site for my friends and family who wanted to keep in touch and use 1 login for all.
Since then, I have dropped the wiki for a standalone family tree software and now run 4images on it’s own (until a WordPress / 4images integration comes along).
The biggest portion of my site isn’t the blog, but the forum and my newest move was dropping phpBB and using a much less bloated software package. Loving WordPress, I moved over the forum to bbPress.
The site has it so that all posts in the blog go into the forum for my comments. With the recent move to bbPress I couldn’t bring across the forum links to posts, but all posts in the future will be directly linked for comments in bbPress.
My site uses a variety of aspects from different WordPress themes combined as well as some things from a previous phpBB template I was using. It is my collage design that I am pretty proud of for my uses.
It is now using fewer plugins (since I dropped phpBB) and seems to work well for my users. I have locked up comments to only members, but Akismet is being used on the forum since it is the place for registrations. Another great WordPress breakthrough for controlling spam.
The bbPress and WordPress integration is working really well and I am give great thanks to all those that work on these great projects!
I hope that others can use these comments to help them with their goals for their sites.
Thanks,
Trent Adams
