• Hi, I’m wondering if its possible, or if there is some kind of work around im not thinking of, to create a free trial of my membership site without setting up any type of payment. that allows somebody to register a username and password, gives them active access to my membership site for say 1 week, and then at that time if they would like to continue they would need to provide payment information.

I currently and only using Level 1 membership, and have free membership closed. im totally open to any ideas for achieving this. So far the only thing i can think of would be to have them request access and then manually create their account with an end date for access in their member profile. Of course thats going to get tedious and something automatic would be ideal. Furthermore, if i did have to go that route, if the person then wanted to pay and continue their membership would they be able to keep their existing login information? Thanks!

  • The easiest way is with the Pro version, where (among other things) you can create a form for this purpose.

So in other words, i would be able to create a form that would register a Level 1 user (the same as my single paid membership level)for a specified time frame, after which, the user could use his same username to then make a payment and continue membership? Im not too familiar with the pro version, but if i can achieve that im in.

Yes, it does exactly that. I use just such a form for free sign-ups to Level 1.

You’ll find the requisite form and explanatory notes as the first item under Stripe Pro-Forms or PayPal Pro-Forms in the Pro version — even though you don’t connect the form to Stripe or PayPal in any way.

OK, thats awesome….thanks. And just so I have all the info as i discuss this with my client..if using the free version, ad say manually entering in these free trials that dont require payment info — could those users then go to our normal “subscribe” button, set up payment, and continue on with their existing usernames and passwords?

They will need to be logged in to upgrade, because otherwise WordPress has no way to recognize them.
