    Website: peakfestival.com.au

I have the latest WP, Salient Theme (8) and all plugins are up to date.

Last night was saving (updating) some content on a Page and when I went to View, the site was broken:
    > very slow to load
    > menu off the browser window to the right
    > text not showing in the right places
    > line breaks in titles not working

You can preview the Broken Homepage here:
    https://peakfestival.com.au/broken_site.png

I have tried the following to no avail:
    > Repaired wp-config.php
    > Repaired db Tables via phpMYadmin
    > Updated, then deactivated all Plugins, then reactivated after no difference seen
    > Reinstalled Theme via ftp
    > Re-installed WP 4.7.3

I have checked-in with my associates who are on PC’s (I am on a Mac with latest OSX) and funnily enough the site behaves 100% on their windows machine. So I also re-installed Mac OSX – also to no avail (Doh!!!!).

When I open up one of the site’s Pages to edit in WP all the content appears to be fine however if I open up a specific text box and try to save changes, clicking the Save on the Text edit pop up won’t save the changes and I can close the pop up. Generally speaking, editing files is not working as it should.

Unfortunately… long pause… I do not have a back up of the database prior to the issue arising.

Can anyone offer any further ways I could try to restore the site or given the symptoms I have detailed, suggest if it could be Theme related, Database related or WP Version related. BTW, I was using latest Theme and WP on this site for a few days with no issue.

    Thank you!!

Your site seems to be loading properly for me, within about 2 seconds, on Chrome 57.0.2987.133 and Firefox 52.0.2, running under macOS 10.12.4.

Given that, and your trouble with editing the content, it could be an issue on your browser’s end.

First, please make sure that your browser is up to date by visiting https://whatbrowser.org/

If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.

If it is, please do these two things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

    2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

    Hi James

Thanks for your prompt reply and I am glad the site is working for you.

I am using latest Safari Version 10.1 (12603.1.30.0.34), latest Chrome 57.0.2987.133 (64-bit) and Firefox 39 (latest).

Mac OSX is Version 10.12.4 (16E195) – updated from previous version this morning to try and remedy the issue.

Initial homepage download takes approx 30 seconds.

I tried clearing cache and removing all cookies but again, all 3 browsers show the broken homepage the same (as per the screen image I uploaded earlier). I don’t have any extensions plugged in to my browsers.

Given you’re able to view the site and it’s loading normally seems to point to a local OSX issue. What do you think? and if it is, where to begin, esp. as I did a full update this morning.

    Dan.

… btw, other websites I have developed with Salient Theme are all behaving correctly. Go figure!

Firefox 39 is definitely not the latest. Make sure that you upgrade to 52.0.2 for the latest security fixes: https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Install-and-Update/Update-Firefox-to-the-latest-version/ta-p/2858

Once you have Firefox 52.0.2, would you please see if you continue to have problems on the site with *all* Firefox add-ons disabled? (even ad blockers)

Also, do you notice any unusual 30-second slowness with any other sites, or just this one?

    Hi James

My bad, I am actually on Firefox 52.0.2 (64-bit). All add-ons are disabled (Tools>Add Ons).

The download speed only effects this site. All other browsing including similar sites I have developed all working correctly and loading fast.

Are there any particular errors in the JavaScript console?

I have also just ruled out any issues with my particular local machine. I have checked the site on a Mac laptop and it appears broken.

Just to be sure… the uploaded screen shot is what the site looks like when it’s broken. Maybe you are seeing a cached version??

Ah! The problem appears to be that the site is not responsive.

    Here’s what I see, full-screen, 1680 pixels wide: https://d.pr/i/PhDD/1oIMHmyU

After making the window a bit narrower: https://d.pr/i/1xWf/5LQ6pYEZ

So, there doesn’t appear to be anything wrong with the computer, the browser, or the site really. The design needs to be updated to be a bit more responsive, or perhaps use a smaller image. If you need help with that, I recommend getting in touch with the theme’s support at https://themenectar.ticksy.com/

    Chrome error:

    (index):43 GET https://peakfestival.com.au/wp-content/themes/salient/css/rgs.css?ver=8.0
jquery-migrate.min.js?ver=1.4.1:2 JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 1.4.1

Salient Theme is responsive…. checked your screen shots and the site looks good on the first image… but not on my screen so there is definitely something wrong.

    (@macmanx)

Right, now see the second image I shared. ??

Your site is displaying just fine when my browser is full-width, at 1680 pixels wide. Here that is again for reference: https://d.pr/i/PhDD/1oIMHmyU

It starts to cut off when the window is decreased to 1615 pixels wide: https://d.pr/i/lqUM/3GcFxcpm

And, you lose the whole ‘K’ at 1475 pixels wide: https://d.pr/i/gulW/4hARnQmF

Based on this, I assume the screen you’re viewing the site on has a lower resolution that 1680 pixels wide.

I know the Salient theme should be responsive, but your current design is clearly not behaving as such, otherwise it would cleanly adjust to the window size. So, I recommend getting in touch with the theme’s support at https://themenectar.ticksy.com/

    Thanks James
I agree that the site is not behaving responsive… whereas it normally does.

Will take your advice and try salient support.

Thank you for your time. Muchly appreciated!

Is there anyone else who can offer any insight in to this issue I am having?

I have engaged Salient Support but only get 1 reply every 24 hours and last night they suggested I optimise my images…. which is totally not the issue here!!

Generally, when I debug, I try to eliminate irrelevant items. In this case, I am still at step 1 trying to work out if:

    a. the problem is with the WP software
    b. the database has become corrupt
    c. the problem is with the Salient Theme software

I have little experience in doing a manual re-install of WP and am worried I may lose the site altogether if I make a mistake. So the other question I have is:

Q: What would be the best way to test each of this to confirm or eliminate them as the source of the problem? or from what I have described earlier, can anyone deduce which of the 3 may be the most likely culprit?

    Thank you.

P.S. Some further insight into what I am experiencing:

? front end loads VERY slowly, but WP Dashboard loads normally when I log in, however…
? when I go to edit a Page, the content loads quite slowly but when it does load, it all looks ok. But when I try to edit some text, the pop up text edit window is slow and unresponsive (won’t save any changes)
