    Hello!

Well… I had a site that had been fine for several months.. a few minutes ago… I tried to install:

    Retro-fitted 0.2 by Justin Tadlock

which I found in the WP Theme search.

I got an error that basically said it wasn’t able to install. It may have said what you see below exactly– as this is now the ONLY thing I see when I type in any page for my site:
    —————————————

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    Apache mod_qos/9.69 mod_fcgid/2.3.6 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at wallsafecritic.com Port 80
    —————————————-
I have whatever version of WP that you get when you auto-install from Hostgator– I had NOT updated to WP 3.2.1 (I can’t access the dashboard to see my current version)

I feel pretty defeated… It looks like the entire site and all work on it are just gone… is there any retrieval possible?

I’ve switched between themes before on this site and had no problems but now, one click and the whole thing is gone.

    Thanks for any help,
    Darlyne

  • Use Themes from here that have many downloads and are popular as they tend to cause few if any issues and avoid themes from search engine searches.

I actually DID find this theme thru the WP “Dashboard”/ Themes/ Install Themes Tab Search function…

    Is your search link:

    https://www.ads-software.com/extend/themes/tag-filter/

significantly different from the Dashboard search in some way?

The “many downloads” and “popular” themes advice idea sounds good- however- I don’t see where (in either search option) it gives that info.

    Thank you for your thoughts/advice!

Check compatibility with WP version and activated plugins, switch to default theme then to another, and ask host to restore site, if all else fails.

    Hello!

Thank you for the thought to get my host to restore the site– THEY DID! THEY were able to restore it… ha! I didn’t know they would help with something like that.. it was good that you mentioned for me to try asking them. I would not have thought of that.

Now I am going to do a plesk backup in my hostgator cpanel to hopefully avoid this issue EVER happening again. And/or to at least have a simpler solution. It seems like the Plesk will do backups and simple one button push restores– just like on a MS computer system restore… at least I hope it’s that easy.. they make it “look” that easy.

So Thank you, thank you, thank you
    – your advice did help and got me in a good direction… ??
