Tries to do too much

    I’ve spent all week working on making my site faster and more efficiently served. I’ve employed a number of techniques and a few plugins. Out of the gate Total Cache offered to do all of these things for me, but what I quickly realized is that I was far better off tackling each item individually. And at the end of the day, this plugin didn’t offer me any one thing valuable enough to justify it’s use.

    I suppose it might work for someone that wants to “set it and forget it” but really if that is your approach to web site optimization, you aren’t likely to be very successful. I’m not even sure this plugin would even work for that crowd (despite the fact that it is recommended by Media Temple – of which I am a happy customer). The configuration options are overwhelming. I went through every option and again at the end of the day I’m much better off looking at each optimization technique individually.

    For those interested, I’m doing everything myself with the exception of two fantastically helpful plugins. Better WP Minify and WP Super Cache. Each was simple to setup and focused on a particular need.

    I’m sorry to hear that you were disappointed, btw WP Minify is now bundled with WP Super Cache, so that advice is not helpful.

    Anyway, I’d be interested to have a look at your site and what you’re trying to accomplish because W3TC is completely modularized allowing you to tackle various performance issues individually while being able to make sure policies (settings) work in concert which is possible with no other tool or framework.

    I’d have to go back and look at my settings to see if a minify tool is included with Super Cache. That may very well be the case, but I’m pretty sure it isn’t Better WordPress Minify which is the specific plugin I referred to above, and the one I found more useful between the two. So, that advice is very much helpful to someone researching individual tools to help with the optimization process.

    I appreciate your outreach and when I review my optimization settings I will most certainly accept your offer for W3TC help.

    I really don’t think it’s fair to give a plug-in one star just because it doesn’t fit your particular preference for doing things.

    Some of us LIKe the all in one, no need to watch over two dozen plugins, routine.

    I agree with davert about giving the low rating. The plugin promises things and it achieves almost all of it. (at least the ones I have used) He has done a great work in creating this plugin.
