I have built a WP-based webiste offline. All my internal links were entered as relative to the WP directory, however when I examine them afterwards they are all recorded in absolute terms, eg https://localhost/… so when I move my installation to my hosting service it doesn’t work. Do I have to search and replace all URLs in my database dump file before loading it? Surely there is a way to ensure all internal links are defined as ‘relative’ to the installation? I must be missing something, but what?

Have you got the right values for “WordPress Address” and “Blog Address” on the Options – General page in your new installation?

If you haven’t, and you can’t get in to change them, see this guide:

    https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/site-url/

If that’s right, and you still have incorrect links, then so long as you have a backup of the database, you could use the Search and Replace plugin to fix them.
