• Hey Everyone,

I’m having trouble adding a third top-level menu item as a link to the navigation bar on my website. It should have been fairly simple, but apparently I’ve made it much more complex for myself due to the heavy editing I’ve done to the original theme I used. Here’s the site:

    https://billkemmler.com

I started with the Tabua Rosa theme and basically took everything I didn’t like out, which included removing all of the menu items that come standard with that theme. What remains are custom menus whose sub-items all link directly to pages, rather than having them be added automatically.

Now, It seems I can’t figure out how to add a top-level menu item that itself links directly to a page (i.e. does not expand/collapse to reveal the links).

I also tried adding the link directly into the sidebar.php file, but the font weight and spacing came out (slightly) wrong despite giving it the same class as the original top-level navigation items (“+Video” and “+Stills”)

Any suggestions? I’m fine with just typing it directly into the sidebar.php file or something as long as it looks right, I don’t plan on changing the layout or content of the site much, if at all.

    Help!

    Thanks!

[Moderator Note: No bumping, thank you.]

  • That theme has not been updated in almost 3 years, may not longer be supported by its developer or be compatible with current/future versions of WordPress. I would strongly recommend that you switch to a more recent theme asap.

just to re-iterate, I’m not actually using the theme, I merely used it as a source to create my own theme that suits my needs better. I’m confident that I can manage to keep it functional to my purposes despite updates, etc. At this point simply changing to a different theme would probably not address the issue I’m having, unless there is one already made that matches the modifications I’ve done.

That said, if there is something specific to this older source theme that’s preventing me from adding this navigation link, I’d be very interested to hear about it.
