• I have decided to transfer my blog to be part of my domain: https://domain.com/myblog, using template andreas09 (which I like the most). I did it in order to use Google AdSense and JavaScript freely. I have successfuly imported almost everything. However, during the operation and after, I have had many problems, some of them I could not resolve:

    1) many of the latest posts I had to copy manualy, which was tedious job (about 10 or more), but I did it after couple of hours of work (which should not be necessary)

    2) I have lost the option of upload YouTube. There’s no button for upload videos and slideshows anymore. Embeding also doesn’t work. Why?

3)I have uploaded “oneClick” plugin, for example, into wp-content/plugin root directory, but it didn’t show at all on Dashboard or anywhere. It means that I won’t be able to work with any plugin in the future, until I eventualy resolve that with your help. I don’t understand where is the mistake?

    4) Theme andreas09 isn’t widget ready (which is unbelievable for such a good theme and I am really sorry for that) so I have lost all the widgets at rigth sidebar. I would need help with making this theme widget ready, but I am not a programer, esspecially I do not know anything about php.

My advice for you guys is: you have a great software, but unfinished in many terms. You should put additional efforts in making your software more user-friendly for those who are not professional designers or programers.

People are blogging not only about software, but about their lifes, and thoughts and should not be obliged to know how everything works in order to use it.

It is as if prerequisitive for getting a driver-licence would be finishing engeneering at university? Stupid.

I dont need to know how works ICM at all in order to be successful driver, isn’t?

Can anyone of you write a MATEMATHIC formula how ICM works? AND YOU ALL driving…

    whaaa.

Self-hosted WordPress, the package that you just installed on your domain requires a plugin to achieve the functionality you are describing. Of which, there is more than one available. “Embedding” any videos works fine, if done correctly, for the record.

3)I have uploaded “oneClick” plugin, for example, into wp-content/plugin root directory, but it didn’t show at all on Dashboard or anywhere. Chances are that you didnt upload this pluigin properly — the hows, why, and what to look for are covered extensively here on the forums and inside the docs. Try searching, and you will find lots of posts like this:

Since this thread ends with you making very broad statements about WordPress, I am compelled to point out that that is a theme, made by someone that has no part in WordPress development. That you lost all the widgets isnt WP’s fault, its your fault for choosing to go with a theme that isnt widgetized.

WP is hardly unfinished. Thats almost laughable. What it is though, is a base package, ripe for people to do with it nearly whatever they want. Functionality like you descibe above, regarding the embedding of youtubhe videos will undoubtedly be left to plugins.

In closing, your post reads like a rant. And its misplaced, into the “plugins and hacks” area. Why is it that the people that complain the most about how difficult WordPress is, cant even read well enough to figure out where to post? Is that equally difficult?

    OK guys;

I see…no one is perfect, so neither you neither I. What we can do is to try to improve yourself. Followed your link:
https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/152751?replies=4 find maybe one hint (but NOT clear resolve). Folders can’t be duplicated, OK. But at the end of thread, is just: We wish you good luck…” Bad comfort. You did not help that member.

And by the way, don’t take my opinions and ADVICES as “rant”. They isn’t that. Don’t take it personally.

    Again, one more USEFUL advice:

GET BUSY AND MAKE VIDEO TUTORIALS as all serious companies do. That way you’ll be less under pressure later.

    OK?

    1) Again, my plugin is in wp-content/plugins/oneclick and CHMOD-ed all to 0777, but stil doesn’t show up.

2)”Embedding” doesn’t work with WP. I had it done infinitelly times at my website, so I know how to do it. It’s simple, but still doesn’t work with WP. With WP it works only if you have a plugin, sorry.

    2) How I can get AGAIN basic widgets, that I’ve HAD in andreasO9 with wordpress.com (CALENDAR, TOP POSTS, RECENT POSTS, RECENT VISITORS, TAG CLOUD…) and lost by downloading new andreas 09, which is by the way slightly different (and why is not the same?).

    Thank you.

    (I hope there’s no “rants”).

    (@evanescense)

Also, RSS feeds doesn’t work AT ALL with new andreas 09 (there’s an empty page).

Get rid of that theme and stop “ranting”.

The difference between wp.COM and a self-hosted blog using the software from wp.ORG is this:
Over there the developers and the admins of the wp.com site do everything for you – including widgetizing themes, installing plugins etc.
On the other hand, when you have your own blog, because you want more control – it also comes with responsibilities: learn, read, do it yourself… or pay a pro.

It’s like the real life: more rights = more obligations! People, usually, don’t like the second half of this equation…

    Moshu:

Thank you for “advice” and your “kindness”.

    I was very eye-opening…

By the way, can you translate to me word “ranting”?
