trouble backing up the database

    Hi,

    I absolutely love this plugin and have been using it on several WP-sites without problems.
    But since a while I am having problems on 1 site (our own…)
    It will backup files, but won’t backup the database.
    The progress just stalls once it gets to table: wp_posts.

    Are you on some ultra-budget web hosting company that only lets PHP run for a tiny amount of time? (Long enough to spit out a WordPress page, but not long enough to do much more, such as dump out the database).

    Also, ask your web hosting company where your PHP log lives, and see if anything of interest is recorded in there. (I don’t think it will be – it looks like a timeout to me).

    it is a bit of a budget host, but I never had problems before, but I will contact them and see if they know what the problem is and where my php log is. Thanks!

    I have sent the host an email, I will keep you updated on what they say, but… in the end it did finally make the backup! So it does work, just VERY slowly. (it took 3/4 hour…)

    Hi,

    Great – please can you post the entire backup log? Use pastebin.com if it’s long. The number of rows in the database table – under 3000 – is not big. So, I suspect your host was under very heavy load and had nearly ground to a halt at first, but that the load cleared later.

    hi,
    thanks for looking into this.
    What surprises me that it is always at the same spot that it stalls (always at wp_post)
    That happened on several occasions, on different dates.

    I also had a reply from my host saying they have a maximum time a script is allowed to run, and they are asking how much time the script needs, so they can check if they can set it at the needed time.

    Hi,

    It was only took 2 seconds the time it succeeded – you can see that by looking at the log file. So, I suspect that all the times it failed, the server was having a problem.

    My host tells me they did not have any problems with their server.

    And server-trouble does not explain why it should always stall at table:wp_post. It does that every time wether I only backup the database or files + database.

    could my database be corrupted? I am not very good at MySql, but it seemed ok when I checked it.
    I am totally clueless here ??

    Should I try to uninstall and reinstall the plugin? any chance that would help? Or is that totally silly.

    Hi,

    In the log you posted to pastebin.com, it eventually succeeded. It dumped out the posts table and finished.

    The fact that it can succeed indicates a problem when failing either of lack of time allowed in the hosting, or lack of memory available. If you can find your PHP error logs, then that may have something useful in.

    Hi,

    I asked my host for those logs, they didn’t give me the logs but looked into it themselves.
    Their answer was:
    It has to do with the time, indeed.

    Ans they asked me to ask you:
    (hopefully I am translating correctly…)
    Is it possible that we call it as a cronjob, then we can maybe work around the problem

    I hope this means something to you, because it is beyond me ??
