    Hey again!

I’m having some trouble with Jetpack entering into Safe Mode for Staging and Development environments on WPEngine. I assumed Jetpack would automatically recognize the URL change (as per your docs) and enter into Safe Mode, but it’s not happening.

Do you have any idea what is going on here? Is there a way to manually enter Safe Mode at least for the time being so my stats aren’t messed up?

    Thanks

  • Hi @studio32uno

I’ve seen you’ve mentioned expecting Jetpack to enter Safe Mode for your staging environments on WPEngine; however, there’s only one supported type of staging site, while WPEngine offers two types of staging sites, as it’s mentioned on this Github issue:

    https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/issues/21504

I’ve added your request there, and I’d suggest activating the Safe Mode manually, by adding this line to your wp-config.php file:

    define( 'JETPACK_STAGING_MODE', true );

Make sure you insert that before the /* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */ line.

You can find more about Staging Mode below:

    Hi!

Ok, so… Wrong website detected. My production website is now being prompted to enter Safe Mode or create a new connection, even when I already set JETPACK_STAGING_MODE flag on my staging website. How should I proceed to solve this issue without having stats reset or a new connection created? Thanks.

    Hi @studio32uno,

Could you please try to disconnect and deactivate the Jetpack plugin from the WordPress dashboard’s “Plugins” section?

    Screenshot here

After deactivating, please activate the Jetpack plugin again and connect it with your WordPress.com account. Let us know if that resolves the issue.

In the unfortunate case this creates an Identity Crisis, we’ll help recover from it.

    Hi @erania-pinnera !

Sorry for the delay, couldn’t try this sooner.
Indeed… Identity Crisis going on. Stats aren’t loading at all.

Could you help me out with this, please? Thanks!

    Hi @studio32uno

I’ve gone ahead and made the necessary changes from our end to solve that, and you can now reconnect Jetpack to find your stats:

Hi! Seems to be working fine now. Thanks a lot!
For future reference: is there a way to prevent the wrong website being detected as the main one when doing a full clone? Say, if I want to update my Staging environment with a full copy of my Production one, how can I avoid this happening again?

    Hi @studio32uno

You can activate the safe mode.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    My best regards,

    Michelle
