Trouble Installing/Uploading Themes

  • Hey Guys,

    I’m still fairly new to the whole WordPress Blog/website and I want to be able to make my blog/site as perfect as it can be. I’m currently running into a problem involving themes.

    Let’s say I found a theme I like in the “Theme Finder” that I would like to install, well when I click install it takes me to the install page but only says “Downloading blah blah blah…” and nothing happens. Other times it goes to “Unpacking Theme” and stays in that forever. I’m not sure if it’s because I haven’t updated to the brand new version of WordPress but I have issues with that as well.

    Any advice to help me out?

  • Try adding

    AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php

    to the top of your WordPress .htaccess file.

    That didn’t work and only caused an “Internal” error and blocked me from my site.

    In that case, you may have to upload your themes & plugins manually.

    I’m also having trouble updating to the new WordPress, do you think you can assist me in that?

    Again – you will almost certainly need to upgrade WordPress manually. I would recommend carrying out two smaller upgrades: 2.9.2 -> 3.0.4 -> 3.1.2.

    Ensure that you deactivate all plugins, switch to the default theme and backup your database before beginning the upgrade process. You may also want to make additional database backups after each successful upgrade.

    So you’re saying that I can’t just jump from my version the the new 3.1.2? That it has to be updated in order? Also I’m having trouble seeing what version I’m currently running. In my dashboard all I see is the message to update to the new 3.1.2 which I cannot do automatically because it won’t let me.

    I’m saying it would be unwise to try and carry out one single large upgrade. What makes you think you are running WP 2.9.2?

    Also not sure if you can help me with this but I’m thinking of switching Hosts to “webhostinghub” and I was curious if you knew anything about switching hosts. Will my site stay how it is, will I have to change it up? etc?
