Trouble Logging In today – Redirecting to Login Screen

  • My problem is similar to the one from this thread: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/trouble-logging-in-redirecting-to-login-screen

    Basically, I am not getting any messages saying my login info is wrong or incorrect, it just keeps spitting me back out to the login screen.

    However, I’ve tried all solutions recommended in the above thread (switching browsers, doing the ‘Cookie Dance’) and none work. I am a Mac user, and I’ve tried logging in with Firefox, Chrome, and Safari.

    Also, I have 2 other WordPress blogs hosted separately, and both are working fine.

    Any idea how I can log in? I’ve been working on this site for a few days, but it isn’t even operational yet and I would hate to have to start over from scratch.

  • Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    I tried both, I am still being redirected to the login screen.

    By option 1, do you mean to just rename the folder to anything, so the system will revert to the default theme?

    OK, then I have done both, to seemingly no effect. Well, when I change the name of my theme, it makes my blog just a blank white page when I try to go to the root.

    Not sure if that means anything…

    You may need to login into the admin area a few times for force the default theme to activate.

    I hate to keep bumping this thread, but I have tried everything suggested and nothing is working. Any other thoughts before I uninstall and reinstall?

    I ran into this problem on a client’s blog (and she’s using Windows while I use Mac, so that ruled out a few things right there). Tried tracing this in various ways and searching, and eventually found something useful in the Codex.

    My problem was exactly as described there: the database options for siteurl and home were wrong. Not sure whether this was the result of something my client did, a bug, solar flares, etc. but fixing those options (through phpMyAdmin) did the trick. Go figure.
