For the last two days, when I edit I form I’ve already created and placed on my draft web site, i get the error message: “Not Acceptable! An appropriate representation of the requested resource could not be found on this server. This error was generated by Mod_Security.” I can make the edit alright, but the update won’t work.

I’m not terribly technically proficient, so any help would be appreciated.

    Hi @psahwell,

    Thanks for your inquiry.

You have a security plugin please deactivate it and try again.

    Zhanna,
Hi. I deactivated the WordFence Security plugin and disabled all the Firefox extensions I have related to security/blocking. It still didn’t work.

    Dear @psahwell,

Please contact your hosting provider, the most probably they have Mod security enabled, please ask them to disable it.

Is this the only option? Our and other hosting providers don’t recommend doing this.

We will not recommend to disable Mod-Security on your account. Mod_security module helps to protect your website from various attacks. If mod-security is disabled on your account, your website will be at risk from vulnerabilities. Once mod_security is turned off for an account, we will not take any responsibility of hacking the domain, database hacking, data manipulation and other activities which mod_security can prevent.

Or you have to go into an htaccess file and disable there. Sort of a pain to have to do this anytime we update a form.

    Dear @retailedge,

I am sorry to respond to you late, you have just written under a topic that was marked resolved that’s why I didn’t notice.

Dear user, instead of disabling Mode security you can ask your hosting provider to adjust security rules in that protocol.

If you have issues with form maker in the back end then you can ask them to exclude or whitelist our form’s backend URL wp-admin/admin.php?page=manage_fm, If you have issues with the form in the front-end (like a problem with Submitting form), then you can send your form page’s front end URL.

What changed? We were always able to update our forms without turning off security items on our site.

There does not seem to be this level of issue with our form generators? Why is your plugin having these issues?

    Dear @retailedge,

We haven’t added any functionality that could cause such an issue.

Did you have mod security enabled in the past? Maybe just lately your hosting provider has added that’s why now you get this issue now. Or maybe mod security rules were changed lately. We can’t say for sure because we don’t see mod security rules and can’t understand why it blocks our plugin. This is why we ask you to exclude or whitelist.

Okay. I will look into some of the other options.

I am having the very same problem which I never had before. What is going on? This plugin is of no value if using it requires major security changes. Please fillow up with some explanation and resolution that is not so drastic.

    Dear @aschaevitz,

The problem can’t be solved from our end at this stage because Mod_security is a firewall for which different hosting companies write different rules, so we don’t have an idea what rules are blocking our plugin.

Our developers are working on this issue for understanding what exactly is not acceptable from the side of mod_security.

The solution that I have suggested above is not drastic, instead of disabling mod_security we suggested just to whitelist or exclude our plugin files, this shouldn’t be difficult for a hosting providing company.

Again, we are working to find a general solution, we are sorry for this inconvenience but this issue has arisen lately, so we need some more time to understand what general rules are available in mod_secutity and why it blocks our plugin files.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

I have this same problem. I’ve been using the plugin for years without issue. Now this and it’s unworkable to update a form. I can’t get access to the mod_security on the hosting side without going through a bunch of people who won’t understand why I can’t get my form to work. It is a drastic solution! The whole point of wordpress is you don’t have to change things like this.

Something must have changed, at least in my implementation with Bluehost ISP. The plugin is suddenly working correctly again. I am not aware of any changes made by the ISP although I did make them aware of the issue.

I updated Form Maker and now am having another error (but still can’t post a form)

    Not Acceptable!

An appropriate representation of the requested resource could not be found on this server. This error was generated by Mod_Security.

    HI @erikemery,

The most probably your hosting company has started to use mod_security lately, or they may have changed mod_security rules recently. I know that it is a time taking process to contact hosting company, but if you can send them the error message along with a request to whitelist our plugin’s front end and back end files/links, they will manage this without taking much time from you.

    Dear @aschaevitz,

We haven’t changed anything, the most probably the changes are made by your hosting company.
