Trouble upgrading to latest version

In my WP plugins page there is a message at the top saying that in order to upgrade to the latest version you must first go to the upgrade page. I’m currently at 2.0.17. It has a link built in that goes to my domain name + this path /wp-admin/admin.php?page=um_upgrade

When I click on the link it just cycles back to the same page I’m already on with the same messages and links. There is also an upgrade button, but the same thing happens.

This all started because of a message saying

Ultimate Member Gallery is inactive. The Ultimate Member plugin must be active for Ultimate Member Gallery to work. Please install & activate Ultimate Member

The problem is the main plugin is already installed and activated.

Any ideas about why these confusing messages?
