Trouble with Homepage Sidebar

I’m unable to place the ‘calendar’ widget in the Homepage sidebar – when I do the default ‘meta’ widget shows up instead as it does in the two ‘blog’ pages that I have.
However, when I place the ‘calendar’ widget in the ‘blog’ pages’ sidebar it comes up on both the ‘blog’ pages as well as the homepage.

Does homepage sidebar not work in Leaf….or does it have a slight glitch or am I missing something really obvious?
