I am very new to creating a website so please excuse my not understanding of how this whole process works. I signed up with host sight Arvixe and installed WordPress through Softaculous. I followed the instructions carefully but still have the 404 not found error codes. I went to look back at my themes and the three basic demo themes were there but when going to add a new theme or search for a new one none popped up or were even displayed. Will someone tell me what I did wrong or if there was a step I missed?

    Hi,

A few basic instructions, if automated setup didn’t work.

Launch a FTP program (for example Filezilla, free ftp software on Mac, Windows & Linux).

With WordPress, themes are stored in a folder called “wp-content/themes/thistheme”. So you need to upload theme in a folder inside “wp-content/themes/”. If you added a theme called “thisnewtheme”, on a production website, it will look like https://www.mysite.com/ (but real theme folder is mysite.com/wp-content/themes/whateverthemenamefolder).

Then, you need to choose this theme as main theme in wordpress admin settings to become effective (save then refresh page – F5 on Windows browsers). Once done, check your website (for example, https://www.plants.com or https://www.plants.com/wp to see what it is like.

Alternatively, you can import themes from dashboard, in themes options (in general a zip file with a similar folder organization).
