I installed the Genesis Simple Menus, but now, like many other plugins i’ve installed, i don’t see anywhere where the interface for this plugin is added to my dashboard. I also don’t know what it means to activate genesis secondary menus. Whenever i go to Menus and create a custom menu, my menu bar at the top of the page disappears…and that’s all that happens, no other menu shows up. I don’t want my horizontal menu bar to disappear, i want to add a secondary vertical menu, to individual pages. Also, when im creating a custom menu, it’s giving me the option just to add elements of my primary menu. Why would i want to create a secondary menu with the same links as my primary menu? I need to create a menu on each page with links to access information specific to that page. For example, one link on my primary horizontal menu bar is POETRY, then on the POETRY page, i want a vertical menu listing collections of works, that open pages containing links for individual works. I may want some of these vertical menus to contain fold outs or just bulleted subsets.

I’ve been fiddling with menus and installing plugins and i’m getting nowhere creating this element that seems pretty basic to many websites.

    Thanks for your help.

There is a meta box on your post/page edit screen & a dropdown added to your category/tag edit screen.

I went into Pages, then clicked Edit on one of my pages, is that where there is a meta box? I still don’t see it. And have no idea where my category edit screen is? I’m very new to wordpress, still very much floundering.

    Thanks

In the Edit page screen click the screen option in the top right and see if Simple Menus is checked. Once it is checked the meta box appears on the right hand side below the Attributes meta box.

If you go into your categories screen there is an action link under each category name that allows you to edit the category. (You have to hover to make the action links visible.)

Okay, went into Page, Edit, Screen Options and clicked all the boxes. I didn’t see one for Simple Menus. I double checked that it is activated as a plugin. However, I have the Pinboard theme. Is Genesis a theme b/c when i searched for it in themes i didn’t find it it. Is this the problem?

    Thanks!

Yes, per the description you need Genesis to use Simple menus. Genesis is a commercial theme by StudioPress.
