Trouble with plugins

my site went down after I uploaded some plug in updates. My site has now come back but all the plug ins have gone. I am trying to upload new ones but when I upload them they say complete but they do not appear on my website. Can any one help please? and i had to change the theme has with all the plugins gone it didnt work properly.
