So happy I found this plugin! Now I just need to get it working. ??

I’ve got the email to be sent something like the following:

tags: tag1, tag2 :excerptstart blahblahblah :excerptend :start #img1# content content blah blah blah :end

The tag is pulling in the :start and #IMG1# variables as part of the tag itself (tag1 :start #IMG1#). I’m guessing that this pulls both variables out of Postie’s logic, because :end is showing at the bottom of the post, followed by the image.

I’m using IFTTT to send the email through Gmail. As you can see, my results are pretty mangled. Not sure if this is because I can’t force Gmail to plain text through IFTTT? I’ve tried adding in <br> characters after each line to see if line breaks make a difference, but they don’t seem to.

    Any suggestions? Thanks!

You are correct thinking that the formatting is causing the problem.

Each of the Postie commands needs to be on it’s own line. If you can’t get IFTTT to do that then you might be out of luck.

You can either create your own process to pull this data out by creating a custom addon – see https://postieplugin.com/extending/

Or by using an existing one see https://postieplugin.com/downloads/postie-shortcodes-addon/

Thanks for your reply! I reformatted slightly and checked my Gmail sent folder, and the most recent email looked exactly like this (note the line breaks):

    tags: to,Favorites - Work
    :excerptstart
Comic Sans is dead to us.
    :excerptend
    :start
    #img1#
Comic Sans is dead to us.

    :end

    …with an attached photo.

The resulting post was titled correctly (from the subject line), but contained ONLY the photo and had one single tag:

Favorites - Work :start #img1# Comic Sans is dead to us. https://www.brafton.com/blog/email-marketing/best-font-for-email-the-good-the-bad-and-the-ugly/ :end

    Any ideas?

Hard to tell exactly from what you’ve posted here. It would be helpful if you installed the Support AddOn and tested again and sent the resulting logs to [email protected]

Just following up here. You suggested that I needed to put :start and :end in the corresponding fields on the settings page, but your documentation specifically says that :start and :end are the default behavior. I’m not sure which is true.

When I added them manually, the problem remained anyway. I’ve double-checked, and everything was on separate lines in the email, as you also mentioned.

    Thanks!
