• I’m in the middle of figuring out why I have a redirect loop when trying to login from my wp-admin page. I have not cleared the site cache or browser cache–not sure it’s the browser cache because I’m getting the same error on another computer on the same browser.

    Two questions:

    1) How do I clear the site cache if I can’t login to wp-admin?
    2) If I disable my current theme to troubleshoot (my best bet is to rename the folder) can I restore that theme and any changes I made if I’m able to get in via the default template?

    Thanks in advance

  • but I want to make sure I don’t lose anything in trying to go back to my current theme.

You won’t lose anything changing themes.

Along with updating WordPress I went to General Settings and changed the WordPress address and the Site Address. They HAD read:

    https://www.congruentmusic.com/wp2/

as that was the folder the WordPress site was located b/c the previous site was elsewhere.

I CHANGED it to https://www.congruentmusic.com AFTER the domain was pointed to the wp2 folder on the server

Like I said, I went through this on a previous site and had NO issues.

    I hope I’m making sense

Below the Site Address is “Enter the address here if you want your site homepage to be different from the directory you installed WordPress.” and that’s what I intended.

Okay, cool–a little different than what I did. I believe my situation falls under “Using a pre-existing subdirectory install”

Question is, what can I do to fix this login issue? Anything?

I’m really not sure – you might try undoing what was done and redoing it per the above.

Well, the thing is I can’t login to undo anything–right now I can only see the WP site via cPanel on this site’s server.

I’m waiting for response from the server’s administrator about ftp info anyway (so that i can get into the site another way besides cPanel). I was hoping to solve some things on my own.

Isn’t there something about replacing the .htaccess file?

Okay, this is weird. I just got in to the Dashboard via a blog page on the site. Any suggestions as to what I can do from here to make sure I can login from wp-admin?

It’s almost as if I was never logged out, but trying to login again blocked me. However, there’s got to be something I can do to make sure I don’t get this redirect issue again.

Should I change back my site path? Leave it alone?

Can I log out and be okay?

    Thread Starter thedaner

    (@thedaner)

Seems to be an issue with the Dashboard, as I can’t log into that with https://www.sitename.com/wp-admin but can with https://www.sitename.com/themes.php for example.

You can certainly try replacing the wp-admin folder with a newly downloaded copy. I’m really not sure about the redirect or URL issues – it’s really outside my knowledge, but maybe someone else will chime in here.

I’m wondering if that’s the issue. I can probably do it via cPanel? Right now I don’t have ftp access to the server.

If that lets you delete and add files, sure. It’s best to delete that folder first – to be sure you get the new copies.

    Awesome, thanks. Fingers crossed.

Did you solve this as I have the same problem?
