How hard would it be to make the post/page content begin just underneath the sidebars, and flushed to the sides of the layout container?

To be precise, I’m using a plugin that shows the posts in a category (via shortcode) in columns, using their featured images in a Masonry/Pinterest style layout.

What I want – is to have those columns blend in with my sidebar content by starting immediately underneath them. I have produced the effect visually (but not functionally) by styling the sidebars/widgets to be similar to the content, and adding an image widget at the bottom/alongside it.

This is just a workaround though. Is there a way this could be done without a lot of re-writing code?

A link might be helpful: https://officialKevinByrd.com

You can see the images on the left – they are there via widget. I’d like to maintain that functionality, but have the content begin directly underneath any sidebar content.

so you would have a gap next to the sidebar and the content would start under the last widget?

The only gap would be the same as in between each column. The content would start under the last widget, yes, with the same gap above as the gaps between the images in the other column.

Basically, I want the sidebar content to look the same as the images, regardless of how much I put there.

I think the way the plugin (Cactus Masonry) is written, I wouldn’t have to edit it – just the end of the sidebar coding.

    Unless I’m overlooking something important.

Would it be possible to change the sidebar from its own column to just a div in the upper left?

maybe what you want is a widget area above teh center area and no sidebars. this is available, see the center area options in the theme settings

No. I am familiar with Atahualpa’s aditional sidebar ares. I still want a left sidebar. I just want the post/page content to begin underneath it (and continue next to it) as opposed to beginning next to it, (which leaves a short or blank column alongside my content.

If you look at the link, you’ll see what I want visually (sort of) – only I didn’t achieve it with the functionality I’m trying to implement, but with a column of black and white images in a sidebar widget. I would like the sidebar to “end” after its content, so that the first column of my post/page content starts in the same place as those black and white images.

Though after further experimenting with the Cactus Masonry plugin, I am not sure this will work anyway

I’m still confused with what you want. Open a thread on the Atahualpa forum and include a marked up image of what you are trying to do.

I’ll go ahead and mark this as resolved – since this functionality would have more to do with the plugin than the theme.

After looking at the plugin, I see it wants its own rectangle to work in. I was thinking it would mold/form around an existing div (the sidebar) so I wanted to make the sidebar ‘end’ after its content – as opposed to spanning the entire height of the content.

What I need to do is figure out how to insert the sidebar into the first column, before the loop, which makes this more of a masonry concern and less of Atahualpa’s.

Thanks for the help either way!
