Trying simply to duplicate my “customer” role – and failing?!??

am i missing something VERY obvious?

I’m logged in as admin, trying to simply duplicate my “customer” role (and create a “customer-wholesale” user) so that i can set up some dynamic pricing for only a certain set of accounts.

so i’ve loaded my “customer” role, and then i’ve “copy customer role” and given it the name “customer-wholesale”, and all i get in response is this:

Error: Failed creating the new role.

why is this happening and what do I do to remedy the situation?
