• Creating a classic hall of fame web site. The Hall has existed for 20 years, and I have one picture of each years class, each photo containing the 5 inductees. I want visitors to be able to search the Hall by name, role, town, year inducted.

I originally thought I’d have a page for each class, but it looks like each one should be a post with a feature picture. Totally confused about how to set up categories (or what should be a cat and what a tag).

Searched the forums and net for 3 days before posting. Any suggestions (even a redirect to a more appropriate forum) is appreciated.

  • Hey @hartfordguy

    Great to hear from you.

There are quite a few ways you could do this. A simple way would be to use posts, categories and our Post Loop widget. The Post Loop widget is bundled with our Page Builder plugin:

    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/siteorigin-panels/

Before you get going try this:

Plugins: Is SiteOrigin Page Builder installed? Install it.
Pages: Create a test page, click on the Page Builder tab and click on the Build posts query button.

This is what you’ll use to display your info. In the Taxonomies field you can search by typing a category name, the field will drop down just like Google would and suggest categories you have. You can build a query this way to display the info you want on a specific page.

Search is another story. To be able to search by one field you’d need a custom search plugin. I don’t have much experience in this field so you’d need to start researching from here: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/search.php?q=advanced+search or general Google searches.

Let us know how you come along.
