Trying to create plugin which reformats comments

hi all,

I’m going to be working on a plugin which overrides a wordpress themes avatar display system and displays an avatar of my choosing (sourced from a different location) and at the same time adds some text below the avatar (links, meta stuff, etc).

I was looking over various wordpress actions to see if I could hook into one but found nothing.

Any ideas?

edit: ok I just discovered filters in the API, I think that’s what I should be using? I was only looking at action hooks before because I didn’d tknow there was an alternative.
