Trying to fully translate WooCommerce from Eng to Spanish.Some progress achieved

Just a reminder, most of the time, those “translation/localization” issues are theme related, because in the updates sometimes the theme developers missed making a few strings translatable, just left theme hard-coded…

and also for the Spanish localization,

As you can see, your selected language (es_MX) is not yet fully translated, it is even only half! You can contribute to that system, and make your translations to be a part of the official file. Just check that project…

In order to edit your translation files, you can use a standalone program like PoEdit:

or to make that from inside the WordPress dashbopard,
you can use some plugins like Codestyling Localization:

[I was using Codestyling Localization plugin, but with the latest updates in WP and WC, because the language management changes and the plugin is a little bit outdated and not updated for a long time, it can not handle the WC translations; at least I cannot able to make it work for me ?? ]

I got your point that the es_MX translation project is not complete yet, so is expected that I don’t see all strings translated. Thanks for the explanation.

About translating from inside my WordPress dashboard I am also using CodeStyling Localization 1.99.30 for doing that. I read somewhere that, in order to translate strings, I needed to go to WP Dashboard -> Tools -> Localization -> WooCommerce row -> Edit link (of the selected language).

Once there, I’d be able to search in the “Original” text field for the string that I wanted to translate and capture the translation I wanted to have.

However, when I try that, I never get results. I can’t even find strings that already appear translated into Spanish in my WP frontend (even when I search with the “Translation” text field).

What am I doing wrong here? What process did you usually follow to translate string from your WP Dashboard?

I don’t think “you” are doing something wrong!
As I mentioned in the previous reply, the Codestyling Localization plugin seemed to be outdated after the latest WordPress and WooCommerce updates, it can not handle the localization files as it has done before.

Just for a fresh test, I locally set up a new wordpress test enviroment. And activate only the Codestyling Localization.
When I put the localization files inside the new directories, it did not recognize the language.
Then I put the localization files inside the Woocommerce directory (as it was before the updates), it did recognize.
But did not open to Edit, it displays a warning about textdomains:

Your translation file doesn't support the multiple textdomains in one translation file extension.
Please re-scan the related source files at the overview page to enable this feature.

So I rescan the language file, and then able to Edit.

BUT, although the language file I use listed as 100% translated, Codestyling Localization show 1112 not-translated strings. (!)

I randomly translate some of those not-translated ones, save and exit.

I went back to Woocommerce Setting to see the effect of that translation changes I made, BUT no change. Those strings seemed translated but not my words.

So I checked back the language files, and I find out that, “the Re-scan” procedure, copied all those other different “text-domain” strings into one file. That is why the plugin listed them as not-translated, because it did not just copy but re-create all the strings with empty translations. I tried to translate those new empty ones, but the system didn’t use my new translations, it looks for the old location, and use them if available.

I can say that the Codestyling Localization plugin is not working as it has before.

Try using PoEdit:

it is much more easier

-Setup the program,
-open the language file,
-make your new translations or changes,
-save the file,
-upload to the language directory
and it works.

No need for a wordpress admin dashboard, no server lagging, no warnings for system resources, etc…

At least this is what I do now, it works for me.

I will go ahead and try PoEdit instead of trying to get CodeStyling Localization to work in my Dashboard.

With this, I’m marking this topic as resolved. Will open up a new one in case I run into issues when trying to use PoEdit.
