Trying to get rid of 1 sidebar, default widgets…

    hello

    I am a complete noob to wordpress, slowly getting to grips with it. My site is here:

    I like the theme very much but I would like to get rid of the first sidebar on the left to make more space for my posts. I did do some search previously but removing the ‘<?php include (TEMPLATEPATH . ‘/sidebar1.php’); ?>’ line of code in the Editor window does not do the trick.

    My other gripe is that there are some default widgets in there I want to get rid of too. I deleted the code hardcoding the widgets fromt eh sidebar files using editor again (ul tags) and nothing happened.

    Even worse, the new widgets I have tried to create using various plugins appear to have no title whatsoever (even if I DID put one in there).

    Help help help! Thank you so muhc for reading my newbie post.
